Read Here To Learn More About Your Door
We all know what a garage door is, and many of us are fortunate enough to have one. But how much do we really know? Do we know what makes up a garage door? Do we know how it works? Do we know its hazards, and common malfunctions? Let's see......
What makes up a garage door?
To state the obvious, every garage door has a door. But there's a lot more parts that make it work. After all, a door can lift on its own. All these parts work together in harmony to create the perfect functioning door. What are these parts you may ask? We don't know......Just kidding!! These are the things we're surrounded with all day!!!!!!
Springs: Make it possible to open the heavy door with little effort
Cables: Strong metal wires that work with the springs to raise and lower the door safely
Rollers: Metal rails on the side of the doors that guide the door up and down
Brackets: Metal parts that connect parts to the ceiling and wall
Sensors: Stop the door from closing if something/someone is blocking the door
Motor: Opens and closes the door, from the top of the ceiling
Weather Stripping: Rubber pieces at the bottom of the door that keep rain, wind, dust, and bugs out
What Are Some Common Malfunctions And Hazards?
"Why does my garage door make a loud screeching noise when it does down?"
That aggravating noise is caused by faulty rollers and hinges (Parts previously mentioned above). Your garage door parts may need a little lubrication to move quietly.
"How come my door won't even open but my power's working fine?"
There's a possibility that your springs may be faulty. Since they help support the weight of the door, it's difficult for a garage door to operate without them working.
"Why is my garage door going down and then right back up?"
This could be because the safety sensors previously mentioned are sensing an object or person blocking the garage door from closing safely. This most likely is an issue you can check without help.
"Why does my door look crooked?"
Sometimes when a cable becomes broken, or a door goes off the track, it causes it to go off to the side and appear crooked.
